Mansoura-Manchester School Program

Mansoura University, Problem Based Learning, Mansoura Manchester

Mansoura University offers two programs for the medical field , namely : Conventional Program and Manchester Program . Almost all universities in Egypt using Conventional systems except Alexandria University.

For your information , Manchester and Conventional Program This program is different from the angle of the syllabus, learning styles and different learning methods and examination system . But different ways, the goal remains the same whatever - so doctors will graduate already . God willing .

In Manchester program , there are two sem for a year. Every sem , students will learn a topic , for example, three sem students will study topics of cardio - respiratory fitness . So , all three sem will learn all aspects of cardio - respiratory fitness - all angles. The students are taught to use the program Based Learning ( PBL) .

What is PBL ?

PBL is an acronym for Program Based Learning . In this program , students will be given a case every week , usually every sem is 10 cases, that is, a total of 20 cases for the year. PBL, in simple and concise language is small . In each PBL, there are about 11 people, and each PBL have their own mentors consisting of university physicians . PBL place to discuss this with their PBL members after attending the lecture .

Activities during the PBL

Given case is often in the form of essays. In essay form is available all the information about the patient , patient 's complain and sebgainya . PBL group members , in turn, elect a chairman to handle the case of PBL .

Often, the PBL case began with the recitation of each member. Then the group will find Difficult words and try to define it , for example " dysphagia " , " abscess " , etc . Later, the chairman will ask the members of the proposed objectives . The objective is a weekly student assignment - eg , physiology of pine etc . The objective is not just one or two , maybe a dozen .

Subsequent PBL , students are asked to explain all that has been learned from the study (study ) objectives for the case in other PBL members , doctors will add just a little - bit - just a mentor .

daily Schedule

Students are required to attend the lecture for about two hours and a practical class for an hour. When the third semester , students are exposed to early exposure in the hospital ( chest department and Radiological imaging) but when six new sem there early clinical experience ( involving patients ) .

From where do I get study material ?

No books must be purchased specifically for this program . To book, can only buy books department ( like conventional ) or just borrow books from seniors then photostat. Maybe you can buy international reference books such as : netter Atlas and Guyton & Hall Physiology . Lecture notes , slides from doctor in Lecture is the most important element because it is the guideline how to learn .

Exam , how come?

The amount of paper that needs to be occupied by students are of three papers . The first is the MCQ paper. essay paper and most recently the OSCE exam . The OSCE is a form of examination that involves some practical lessons and also histology slides. Students are required to answer questions based on foreign paper on the computer.
